Construction of motorcycle helmets

Motorcycle helmet looks very simple, like a beautiful shell inside sticking some foam, but in fact it is not, motorcycle helmet is a highly technical product, it is a complex, multi-layer technical system, by the shell, cushioning layer, liner, mask and fixation system composed of five parts.

1、Shell

Shell is the first line of defense of the motorcycle helmet, used to absorb and disperse the impact energy, the shell will usually withstand a small impact, such as when you parked from the seat fall, will not damage the protective force on you, small bumps or scratches will not affect its performance. Helmet shell material has ABS resin material, PC ABS alloy material, glass fiber reinforced plastic, carbon fiber and other kinds of, carbon fiber material shell is the highest technical content.

2, cushioning layer

The role of the cushioning layer is to slow down the movement through deformation and absorption of impact. When a motorcycle accident occurs, the sudden stop when it falls and collides with the ground will bring fatal injuries to the head, and the cushioning layer's role is to slow down the movement to avoid sudden stops. The cushioning layer is usually made of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) material, with several different densities sandwiched together for better results.

3. Inner Lining

The inner liner fits snugly around the head, and its main job is to keep the helmet wrapped around the head, preventing it from shaking or rotating. It also reduces noise inside the helmet, absorbs impacts, sweat and skin oils, and acts as a barrier between the head and the cushioning layer. Good motorcycle helmets usually have removable and washable comfort liners.

4、Face shield

The purpose of the visor is to allow the owner to see the road, but also to prevent things from bouncing off the road and hurting the face, a good visor is made up of polycarbonate, which has been tested for penetration resistance.

5. Fixation system

The retention system is the device that keeps the motorcycle helmet in place on the head, preventing the helmet from tilting forward and slipping off the head. Many riders don't like to fasten the retention device, so that the motorcycle helmet will be detached from the head in case of an accident, which is no different from not wearing a helmet.
